Woods Hole
In this piece, the shells are hand cut and placed on a collage of decorative papers to give the illusion of being caught in a net.
4.5x6.5 inch artwork with total framed size of 6.5x8.5 inches. Collage of Thai banana paper, mulberry paper and hand-painted watercolor paper. Stand on back for display.
Part of a 14 painting series, The Seashell Collection. Based on a trip I took in the summer of 2023 to Cape Code for the first time. I was drawn to the multicolored seashells on the beach and since I had never painted seashells before, decided to create a seashell collection. I initially thought I would paint exotic shells I could find in museums but I decided to stick to the humble shells I had found on the beach in Cape Cod and highlight their quiet beauty. I used colorful cardstock as backgrounds and decorative papers with natural fibers to add more color and texture to these pieces. I hope this collection helps you appreciate the beauty and elegance of the shells scattered across your favorite beach and evokes summer memories of sandy and salty days.
